How To Pit Cherries Without A Cherry Pitter

Cherry season has arrived!  Let's all give a hip-hip-hooray!  Today I want to share a tip I learned years ago from The Martha about pitting cherries without one of those handy-dandy cherry pitters.  If I had a cherry tree of my own, I'd buy one.  But this is good enough for us occasional pitters.

How To Pit Cherries Without a Cherry Pitter:

If you have a cherry pitter, awesome. If you don't, allow me to show you something I learned from the all powerful Martha a few years ago. Use a pastry tip. Brilliant!

I just used a small round tip.  All you have to do is insert the tip into either end of the cherry--the stem end works best, press firmly, and voila! The pit comes out the other end.

I won't lie--it probably took me a good 45 minutes to pit all those cherries you see in that measuring cup.

My favorite cherry recipes:

White Cherry, Honey, Yogurt Sorbet
Fresh Cherry Pie
Black Forrest Cake (can use jarred or fresh cherries)

Great idea! I don't pit cherries often, so I've never invested in a cherry pitter. This will come in handy for the times I wish I had one, though!
