Weelicious Cookbook Review+Giveaway

Every time I receive a new cookbook to review I am blown away with how simply amazing it is.  And Weelicious:  One Family, One Meal by Catherine McCord is no different.  You might already be familiar with the popular blog Weelicious.com.

My kids ripped it right out of my hands and started pouring over the pages telling me which recipes they wanted me to make first.  The recipes are fantastic--healthy and fun.

The first part of the book is actually my favorite part--even over the recipes.  Catherine McCord details the importance of feeding your children good, healthy, whole foods, but not in a preachy way.  I already knew a lot of the things she wrote about because they are things I've researched on my own and are important to me too.

What I loved is that she doesn't just drop all this information on your lap and say, "Have fun!"  She gives you really good tips for how to enact what you've just learned.  That's what I love about this book the most.  It's practical.  It doesn't hurt that the recipes are fabulous and the pictures are gorgeous, but sometimes I just need some practical advice for helping me teach my kids healthy eating habits.

With school starting and trying to get back into my routines again, our meals haven't been what I want them to be.  Another thing McCord emphasizes is eating meals together as a family and eating the same thing.  Get it?  One family, one meal. :)  Yeah...no short order cooking for picky eaters.  She also decries the popular trend of hiding veggies in brownies and other foods so kids will eat them.  Nope!  Kids should learn to enjoy the taste of fruits and veggies and explore them on their own.  And I completely agree.

Anyway, you probably want to pick up a copy of this.  Christmas is on the horizon.  It would make THE perfect gift for a new or expecting parents, or anyone who cooks for kids--even grandparents.  The baby food recipe section almost had me wishing for another baby just so I could try out her recipes.

You have the chance to win a copy of your very own just by leaving a comment.  The winner will be chosen at random and the book will arrive on your doorstep.  Just like that.

*Giveaway is open to US residents.
*Anonymous comments will be ignored, so please leave a name with your comment.
*The winner will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.
*The giveaway will end on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at midnight EST.  (That's 10 PM MST.)  Winner will be announced at the top of this post and notified by e-mail, if possible.

Good luck!!! Print this post

My daughter isn't even eating solids yet, but I'm clueless in the kitchen and worried about what to do about mealtime when she's older. This cookbook would be a lifesaver!

I teach a homeschool cooking class and would love to have try this book and use it as a resource. I want my kids to love being in the kitchen. It's a skill that will help them in so many ways (financially, nutritionally, etc).

Love the idea of one family, one meal. It seems today that too many families are distracted with work or technology to truly appreciate what they have in front of them.
I married the love of my life not too long ago, and we are expecting our first little in the spring! One of the many promises I made to to myself is that no matter how crazy life gets, family will always be first. And food is a wonderful way to teach littles about forever love and healthy living!

Thank you so much for sharing!
